5. Use real objects to teach concepts. If your kids are little, you can use raisins or even gummy bears to learn addition and subtraction.
6. Be encouraging to your kids and help cheer them on when they are trying. Kids love the praise that parents can give them and reenforcing that they are doing great can help take away stress.
7. Use math manipulatives for kids that are kinestheic learners. Having something to touch and feel can help register math better for these types of learners.
8. Flash cards are a great way to have kids learn math. You can even make it into a game with rewards too. And the best part is they are very inexpensive too!
9. Integrate other subjects into math learning. Most kids don’t enjoy math but do enjoy other subjects like history or science. Try thinking outside the box and while you’re learning about plants in science, measure them with a ruler for math. Or when you’re learning about a country in social studies, learn how to convert their currency for math.
10. Go outside and do math with fresh air and some chalk. Learning math can be made fun when you take the pressure off!
11. Use food! When teaching math to little kids, using candy is a really fun way to get them involved. Things like M&M’s, teddy graham crackers or anything else that you can think of are a great way to show them how to do simple addition and subtraction!
These tips can help your kids learn to see math in a new light. But sometimes they might still need a little help.
